How to properly clean silicone cookware: tips

Cleaning silicone cookware is essential to maintain its longevity and ensure it remains hygienic for cooking. Silicone, known for its non-stick properties and high heat resistance, can sometimes appear dirty due to oil residue or staining.

Here’s a straightforward, step-by-step guide to effectively clean your silicone kitchen utensils.

  1. Rinse with Warm Water: begin by rinsing your silicone cookware in warm water. This initial rinse helps to remove any loose food particles or surface grease.
  2. Use a Mild Dish Soap: apply a mild dish soap to the silicone. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the silicone’s surface.
  3. Scrub Gently with a Non-Abrasive Sponge: gently scrub the silicone cookware with a non-abrasive sponge or soft cloth. For cookware with grooves or intricate designs, use a soft-bristled brush to get into the nooks and crannies.
  4. Tackle Tough Stains with Baking Soda: if there are stubborn stains or residual odors, create a paste using baking soda and a little water. Apply this paste to the affected areas and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before scrubbing gently.
  5. Rinse Thoroughly: rinse the cookware thoroughly with warm water to remove all soap and baking soda residue.
  6. Dry Completely: dry your silicone cookware completely with a clean towel or let it air dry. Ensuring it is completely dry before storing will prevent any mold or mildew growth.
